Scope

Objective

To contribute to the development of the Japanese economy by laying a foundation for the progress of the VC industry

To raise public awareness of VC industry through improving the professional practice of the venture capitalists

The JVCA will accomplish its mission through

  1. Surveys, research and studies the full range of VC activities
  2. Prints publications and promotes PR to raise public awareness of the VC industry
  3. Conducts public symposiums, seminars and other events on VC
  4. Collaborates with specialist organizations and bodies supporting venture businesses
  5. Collaborates with universities, government and research organizations
  6. Collaborates with stock exchanges, the Japan Securities Dealers Association, and stock market-affiliated organizations
  7. Collaborates with regional and foreign VC associations
  8. Makes recommendations on public policy and regulatory systems to all levels of government
  9. Provides educational and research programs for the professional development of member firms and their employees
  10. Develops and proliferates professional standards and certifications unique to JVCA

Committee Activities

The JVCA has established five active committees. Parentheses denote the home firm of each committee chair.

Accounting Committee (Ant Capital Partners Co., Ltd.)
  • Responsible for drafting proposals for unified accounting standards and on disclosure methodology; presents submissions to The Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants
Taxation Committee (Japan Asia Investment Co., Ltd.)
  • Incorporates the perspective of investors, venture capitalists, and venture businesses in the examination of tax-related issues; relates its findings to requisite agencies and bureaus
Legal Affairs Committee (Daiwa Corporate Investment Co., Ltd.)
  • Deals with revisions to the law governing investment enterprise partnerships-considered vital to small and medium-sized enterprises-in terms of the challenges faced by firms making venture capital investments; makes appropriate recommendations to the necessary agencies and bureaus
Research Committee (Mitsubishi UFJ Capital Co., Ltd.)
  • Charged with creation of statistical resources for the JVCA; hosts seminars and information sessions
Public Relations Committee (ITOCHU Technology Ventures, Inc. )
  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of the JVCA website, coordination of seminars and lectures, and publication of the association's newsletter
